Despite the proven efficacy of ivermectin in treating COVID-19, some studies in top-tier journals have concluded otherwise. Which data should we trust?
The use of ivermectin to treat COVID-19 is an ongoing debate. The central conflict is that although many doctors have reported success in using ivermectin, some studies published in major journals suggest it is in fact ineffective.
Even as the FDA recently has been removing misinformation it posted about ivermectin, the agency has maintained its original position regarding its effectiveness, namely that there isn’t evidence.
People who trust ivermectin claim that the studies showing ineffectiveness are fraudulent, while people who are skeptical of its use for treating COVID-19 view that as an anti-science conspiracy theory.
As a professional with decades of research experience conducting dozens of clinical trials on antiviral drugs, I decided to dive deep into the studies purporting ivermectin’s ineffectiveness. What I found shocked me.
Legacy Media Report Ineffectiveness
Numerous preclinical studies have found that ivermectin has a broad range of effects on COVID-19, spanning from its initial effect on viral infection to its effect on the pathological changes the virus causes in our bodies.
Ivermectin inhibits the entire life cycle of SARS-CoV-2 in our cells, including attachment, spreading, and replication (1, 2, 3).
Ivermectin exceeds the approved antiviral effects of other medications, including Paxlovid, molnupiravir, and remdesivir, which target only the virus and lack anti-inflammatory and organ-protective effects. Monoclonal antibodies have to be constructed specific to each variant and are very expensive.
In the pharmaceutical industry, clinical trials are commonly used to evaluate the efficacy and safety of drugs once their mechanism is demonstrated. There are two types of clinical trials: observational and interventional.
Observational studies are often conducted by doctors in clinical, hospital, or community settings to analyze the effects of drugs. The data are collected as observed in clinical practice with minimal interference.
Many doctors have observed the positive effects of ivermectin on their patients. An observational study conducted in Brazil with more than 88,000 patients showed that ivermectin reduced the rates of infection, mortality, and hospitalization by 49 percent, 92 percent, and 100 percent, respectively.
Pharmaceutical companies are required to conduct interventional studies that meet the approval standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are frequently used to fulfill these requirements. This type of study is considered the gold standard and involves randomly assigning one group of patients to receive a specific drug while the other group does not receive it, then comparing the outcomes.
Legally and medically, ivermectin can be prescribed off-label to treat COVID-19 since it has already been approved by the FDA for other diseases.
Although many doctors have observed the positive effects of ivermectin in treating their patients, the media have specifically highlighted data from a few selected RCTs that have concluded it is ineffective in treating COVID-19.
However, some critical aspects were overlooked in those RCTs.

Improper Dosing
A drug’s therapeutic effects can be observed only when it reaches the appropriate concentration in the body and remains there for a few days, allowing sufficient time to work.
Improper dosing was a major issue in the RCTs that found ivermectin ineffective.
Recommended Dosage
According to Merck’s package insert for ivermectin (brand name Stromectol), a single oral dose of 0.2 mg/kg was officially recommended for treating parasitic diseases. There is no official dose for COVID-19.
The recommended dosage of ivermectin for treating COVID-19 is based on the clinical experiences of physicians worldwide.
The Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC) guidelines recommend taking 0.4 mg/kg of ivermectin daily, immediately after exposure. Once a cumulative dose in excess of 200 mg is reached, the risk of acquiring COVID-19 has been shown to be nearly zero.
It is common for a drug with multiple indications to have different doses for different diseases.
Moreover, ivermectin should be given with food, as it has a 2.6-fold higher bioavailability when taken with food than when taken on an empty stomach. The Merck package insert (revised May 2022) also supports this and states, “Administration of 30 mg ivermectin following a high-fat meal resulted in an approximate 2.5-fold increase in bioavailability relative to administration of 30 mg ivermectin in the fasted state.”
FLCCC guidelines also recommend taking ivermectin “with or just following a meal for greater absorption.”
Yet this important dosing information is not reflected in the commonly used drug prescribing resource known as the Prescribers’ Digital Reference, which states: “Take the number of tablets your doctor has prescribed all at the same time with water on an empty stomach. Do not eat any food within two hours before or after taking the tablets.”
So if a person takes the dose while fasting, they are getting only 40 percent of the recommended dose. For patients with a higher body weight, the effects of underdosing could be even more significant.
RCT Studies Used Inappropriate Dosing
In the most recent PRINCIPLE trial published in March, ivermectin was used at 0.3 mg/kg for only three days. Moreover, it was designed to dose the ivermectin without food: “Participants were advised not to eat two hours before or after taking ivermectin.”
In another RCT, ACTIV-6, published in JAMA in October 2022, ivermectin was dosed in a fasting status; the protocol stated, “Ivermectin should be taken on an empty stomach with water (30 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after a meal).”
Ivermectin was reported as dosed at 0.4 mg/kg for three days—a much shorter time period than it should be. However, in the protocol Table 4 in Appendix 16.3.3, the precise dosing was as low as 0.269 mg/kg, and 0.4 mg/kg is actually only the upper dose limit—not the real dose.
According to the worldwide recognized study guideline ICH Good Clinical Practice, clinical trials must adhere to ethical principles. Failure to do so would be considered study misconduct or fraud and would violate the principle of integrity.
Another JAMA study published in March 2021 repeated the same mistake in mild COVID-19 patients by suggesting they take 0.3 mg/kg for five days on an empty stomach.
An RCT study known as TOGETHER, published in March 2022 in the New England Journal of Medicine, underdosed ivermectin with 0.4 mg/kg for only three days and did not mention dosing with food.
Nevertheless, even at this low dose, the ivermectin reduced hospitalization rates, death, and the need for mechanical ventilation compared to a placebo.
Clinical Improvement Despite Underdosing
It is inappropriate to conclude that ivermectin was ineffective based on these RCT studies with major design flaws.
Despite the poor study design, ivermectin showed clinical benefits and saved lives.
In the PRINCIPLE study, self-reported recovery was shorter in the ivermectin group than in the group receiving usual care, with a median decrease of 2.06 days. The statistical analysis showed that it met the predefined superiority criteria.
Furthermore, the analysis showed that ivermectin effectively reduced COVID-19-related hospitalizations and deaths. Only 1.6 percent of 2,157 patients in the ivermectin group experienced hospitalizations or deaths, compared with 4.4 percent of 3,256 patients in the usual care group.
Even a low dose of ivermectin has demonstrated the potential to save lives. However, the authors concluded, “Ivermectin for COVID-19 is unlikely to provide clinically meaningful improvement in recovery, hospital admissions, or longer-term outcomes.”
Meanwhile, the report’s appendix includes dozens of recorded clinical benefits in patients treated with ivermectin, such as the time it took to alleviate all symptoms, general unwellness, muscle aches, and headaches. The improvement of symptoms was also sustained, and the severity was reduced. Surprisingly, the source PDF was removed from the website during the writing of this article.
There are additional examples. Although the previously mentioned 2021 JAMA study underdosed patients, treatment with ivermectin reduced recovery time by two days. In the ACTIV-6 study, only one venous blood clot event was reported in 817 ivermectin-treated patients, compared with five events in 774 placebo-treated patients.
Statistical Failures
It is important to note that the definition of treatment effects in an RCT can differ from those discussed in real-life observational studies.
Sometimes, even if the results of a clinical trial demonstrate a clear effect, the conclusion may still be interpreted as ineffective because of the statistical definition of effectiveness.
Interpreting statistics can be challenging as they usually involve complicated mathematical models and numerical data that can be manipulated to support a specific agenda. Nevertheless, for the purpose of this discussion, let’s presume that all research is carried out conscientiously and without manipulative intent.
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial with mild to moderate COVID-19 patients, none of the 55 patients in the ivermectin group died, whereas four of 57 in the placebo group died. Moreover, only 1.8 percent of ivermectin-treated patients needed invasive ventilation compared with 8.8 percent in the placebo group.
In other words, ivermectin reduced the risk of death by 100 percent and the need for ventilators by 80 percent.
However, the article did not provide the p-value (probability value) for the death rate comparison or the invasive ventilation of 0.102 (Table 2), which is higher than the 0.05 threshold considered to be a significant statistical difference.
P-values are commonly used to test and measure a “null hypothesis,” which states that no differences exist in the effects being studied between two groups. A finding is considered statistically significant and warrants publication when the p-value is 0.05 or less.
The p-values in this study were deemed insignificant because they were more than 0.05. Accordingly, the authors wrote that this difference was statistically insignificant and concluded that ivermectin “had shown only marginal benefit.”
How could a 100 percent reduction in death or an 80 percent reduction in ventilation be interpreted as “marginal” effects?
In the I-TECH study published in JAMA Internal Medicine in 2022, the patients treated with ivermectin had a mortality rate of 1.2 percent compared with 4 percent in the comparator group.
The same conclusion was made as the previous study because the p-value was 0.09, higher than 0.05.
If the 7 million patients reported to have died from COVID-19 had been treated with ivermectin, an estimated 4.9 million lives could potentially have been saved based on the 70 percent reduced mortality rate from the I-TECH study; or 4.5 million lives could have been saved based on the 64 percent reduction of mortality in the PRINCIPLE study.
The lifesaving potential of ivermectin has been hindered by the unnecessary statistical threshold. The problem of statistical significance is widespread and frequently causes confusion among scientists.
A 2016 Nature article raised concerns about the misuse of p-values. A 2019 comment in the same journal stated, “The misuse of statistical significance has done much harm to the scientific community and those who rely on scientific advice.”
The authors called for abandoning the use of statistical significance to draw conclusions regarding the effectiveness of drugs, such as stating that “drug Y does not work,” and cautioned that such conclusions may result in the dismissal of potentially lifesaving drugs.
The authors also wrote, “Let’s be clear about what must stop; we should never conclude there is ‘no difference’ or ‘no association’ just because a P value is larger than a threshold such as 0.05.”
Selection Bias
Many people, including physicians, may not be aware that interventional studies, particularly RCTs, are prone to numerous biases, with selection bias being one of the most significant. Excluding potentially eligible individuals because of their anticipated group allocation can lead to selection bias.
It’s common knowledge that early treatment of COVID-19 is crucial for effective results. The earlier the treatment starts, the more effective it is. These approved antivirals for COVID-19 are used shortly after COVID-19 infection and usually within a few days after symptom onset.
For example, Paxlovid and molnupiravir registration trials treated patients within only five days of symptom onset.

However, in the PRINCIPLE trial, ivermectin was used for patients within 14 days of symptom onset, while ACTIV-6 treated patients an average of six days after infection.
Patients with severe kidney disease are normally excluded from phase 3 studies, as they are less likely to respond to antiviral treatment. This approach has been taken by remdesivir (protocol), molnupiravir (protocol), and Paxlovid (protocol). However, such standard exclusion criteria were not taken by the ACTIV-6 or PRINCIPLE study protocols.
Why was ivermectin treated so unfairly in these clinical trials?
It is well known that when an RCT is sponsored by Big Pharma, there is often a financial conflict of interest, as the research institutions are usually hired or funded by the pharmaceutical company. In a world where wealth often competes with ethics, how many can resist financial temptation and stay true to moral principles?
“Hidden agenda bias” occurs when a trial is conducted to demonstrate a desired outcome rather than to answer a question.
Proven Without a Profit Motive
Conducting an RCT to get a drug approved by the FDA requires money. Every drug must be managed by a professional team composed of doctors, database managers, and assistants. Professionals must secure funding, recruit a lead investigator, and find hospitals to conduct the study. An operational team must perform the study, analyze the data, and gain FDA approval.
Since ivermectin is a generic drug that lacks profitable marketing and a pharmaceutical sponsor, it’s challenging to organize and systematically manage its new application with health authorities, data, and customers.
Nevertheless, doctors worldwide have been using ivermectin to help patients and have collected valuable data.
The website c19ivm.org has compiled data on 102 clinical trials proving ivermectin’s consistent effectiveness in treating COVID-19. Studies with negative conclusions about ivermectin are also included, such as the four RCTs with recognized design flaws.
Since the beginning of the analysis, ivermectin has consistently shown efficacy. This meta-analysis provides a thorough and transparent real-time analysis of all eligible ivermectin studies.
The trials were conducted by 1,139 doctors or scientists from 29 countries with 142,307 patients. Out of the total studies, 86 have been peer-reviewed with 128,787 patients, and 49 were randomized controlled trials with 16,847 patients.
In the studies with comparative groups, ivermectin was shown to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection by 81 percent, mortality by 49 percent, ICU admission by 35 percent, ventilation usage by 29 percent, and hospitalization by 34 percent.
In comparison with the control groups, the group treated with ivermectin as a preventive measure before infection experienced reductions in the most severe clinical outcomes of COVID-19 by 85 percent. When used in the early stage of COVID-19, ivermectin decreased the severity of the disease by 62 percent, and when used in late stages, it reduced the clinical severity by 39 percent. Clinical severity is measured by death, ventilation, disease progression, and hospitalization.

Considering the Entire Picture
It’s difficult to believe that the designers of these studies were unaware of the dosing of ivermectin. Despite all the above analyses, the reasoning behind the ivermectin underdosing or unfavorable study design may be linked to factors beyond science.
A new drug or vaccine cannot achieve an emergency use authorization status if there is an existing viable therapeutic available. This fact alone may have affected many decisions.
The NIH website lists only those RCTs that I found to have design flaws (or potential fraud) to justify its recommendation against the use of ivermectin in the treatment of COVID-19.
Peer-reviewed studies showing the efficacy of ivermectin in treating COVID-19 have been retracted without explanation, and doctors have been demonized,censored, and doxxed for speaking the truth.
Legacy media, including The New York Times and CNN, reported incomplete and improperly interpreted trials that failed to present an accurate representation of ivermectin’s effects.
It’s important to keep an open mind and consider the entire picture when examining the ivermectin issue, rather than dismissing it as conspiracy or misinformation. This can lead to more informed decisions that could ultimately save lives.

Very happy for those that think Ivermectin is ineffective against COVID to keep getting their COVID vaccine boosters. My family did our research about the vaccines and quickly concluded that being “safe and effective” but requiring a 100% government backed immunity for adverse events was an oxymoron so we looked for alternatives and found the FLCCC. Unlike the TGA,APHRA,CDC ,FDA,WHO and the myriad of other alphabet agencies that were pushing the government vaccine line, the doctors at the FLCCC were experienced ICU specialists with first hand knowledge from treating COVID patients. We chose to follow their advice which included Ivermectin. Despite the Australian government banning its use for COVID treatment and APHRA threatening to deregister doctors that prescribed it, we were able to source large quantities of Ivermectin. We sailed through COVID with zero problems and my wife and I are in the supposedly high risk age group for COVID – late sixties. Anyone that tells you Ivermectin doesn’t work for treating COVID is either lying or is an idiot.

If you want to know why some studies were designed to fail, look at who funded those studies and how dependent the researchers are on big pharma money. Big pharma can’t make money on 1.90 a dose.

The speed of the quantum particle spin, resonance or vibration is based on the amount or percentage of compassion/light a quantum particle has. Quantum particles create a filmy image of any thought and intent, a consciousness or human has for as long as they hold their focus on that thought. The image will carry the resonance and clarity that the THINKER HAS. Sloppy thinker, sloppy images.
The image is solid enough to be moved by another consciousness.
The quantum field and quantum particles have no time or space and are in a continuous flow of unconditional compassion and love. When the THOUGHT is NOT compassionate the quantum spin of the quantum particles slows and collects matter, dropping the consciousness OUT of the quantum field into the quarantined toxic dark bandwidth of 3D/lower 4D resonance reflecting back to the thinker, their thought, it’s vibration and intent.
Quantum LAW of RESONANCE or VIBRATION says each resonance has different event sites with particular themes or purposes with unique sensations, colors, sounds, tastes and smells. Vibrations are predictable, measurable and can be calculated and understood. You interact in real time with any resonance your thought patterns electromagnetically match, attract and entrain with.
Repeated motions are called “oscillations” or “cycles.”
“What goes around comes around” or “as you sow, so shall you reap” is the basic understanding of how karma, the law of cause and effect, works. YOUR actions will eventually have consequences, even though it may be a great many incarnations later.

Then consciously remember and realize the cause and effect cycle YOU put into motion when YOU forced and controlled. Know that your current wounds and traumas are the same wounds and traumas you gave to others many incarnations ago.

The lowest level of awareness or consciousness is FEAR and the FALSE belief or illusion of being victimized instead of being a conscious compassionate creator.
“REAL” is a perceptual decision you make and CAN change continuously. We scan our electromagnetic environment for frequencies matching our beliefs, which change our DNA to match and resonate with what you perceive to be real.
Dimension’s 1,2,3,4 are quarantined dimensions of toxic consciousness residing out of the higher frequency of the quantum field of compassion. Dimensions 1-4 have width, depth, height, space, time carrying low percentages of compassion or unconditional love.
Realities, illusions or holographs of FEAR, anxiety, negativity, depression, anger, apathy, worry, doubt, guilt shame, denial and confusion of the Dark One’s that feel entitled to judge, blame, compete with and punish each other. All mantras, rituals, prayer, affirmations, ceremonies and traditions are unconscious mindless dissociation found only in lower vibrations, illusions and realities.
Moving into higher resonances, frequencies or vibrations is NOT delving further into external events. It’s about going within and remaining conscious about what you sense, think and intend INSIDE of you.
DIMENSION’S 5 and beyond are a soup of continuous motion and carry ONLY give and receive compassion frequencies. Quantum Field’s outer circles carry the fastest electromagnetic energy with the fastest quanta spin. The outer circle surround lower vibrating realities, illusions, holographs, planets, universes, galaxies, people and portals which are ALL sentient beings that choose to experience living in the form they currently have adopted NOW.
Quanta are sentient, think, evolve, are self-directed, know what each other know and always work cooperatively and constructively, there are no secrets or hidden agendas. Quanta transfer information from one end of the universe to the other end, in “subspace” 10,000 times faster than light without diminishing or altering the information.
Consciousness does NOT occupy space or time.
Traveling or shifting your consciousness, focus and vibration is accomplished with YOUR imagination and KNOWINGNESS or senses. This may feel like gentle confusion or “fuzziness” of the senses, as you catch glimpses and snippets of other energies around you. A flow or a swirl of energy, doesn’t have limits or boundaries unless they are structured that way by the human belief system or some other consciousness.
In 5D and beyond we are one mind with many thinkers, feelings and senses entangled in the quantum field together. These are warm compassionate sensations of close bonding support, trust and clear constructive purpose. Law of attraction and entrainment bring you matching resonances or answers or experiences, in the form of ideas, people, events or information.
We can only create a loving life when we love ourselves knowing there is NOTHING wrong with us.

something that could be used because returning to the light is an act that generates a light even greater than its destination, in other words each of you produces an immense light and my speech is synthetic when I tell you this each of you through your thoughts creates what you call the future of your world in truth calls the future corresponding to your thoughts from the moment.

We are now in an age of “Space Barons and Techtitans”, and the future they are leading us to is one of even greater exploitation, inequality, and ecological crisis. A small group of high-tech savvy entrepreneurs who understand the velocity of technological innovation have harnessed this new power to establish predatory high-tech monopolies, such as Uber or Amazon. They subvert labor laws, strip the state of its power, gut regulation, ignore legal norms and amass personal fortunes in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Their apps, services, and private equity firms dominate our lives. They are technological predators seen in every aspect of social existence commodification.
The living wages of working people decline. The gig economy abolishes job protections, sustainable incomes and benefits. AI replaces human beings. The most vulnerable are pillaged for profit. The sick feed the profits for big pharma. The bodies of poor men and women on the streets of our bleak. De-industrialized cities feed the profits of the prison industrial complex. They’re worth nothing until they are locked in a cage in the world’s largest prison system generating between 50 or $60,000 a year fed, of course, to the privatized phone services, the money transfer services, the commissary, and the medical services that have privatized American prisons.
Utilities sold to private companies gouge us with overpriced water, electrical, parking, and sewage bills. At the same time, we are the most watched, photographed, spied upon and monitored population in human history. This technology far from improving our lives is creating a new serfdom, if not a new slavery, all the while propelling us at a dizzying rate towards Ecocide.
Joining me to discuss our dystopian present and most probably our dystopian future is Loretta Napoleoni, author of Technocapitalism: The Rise of the New Robber Barons and the Fight for the Common Good. So let’s begin.
You open the book with Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and I am very weak on that, so I told you you’ll have to hold my hand through it, but you really cite it as extremely important in the emerging societies in which we are going to live. So, I’ll let you just start and explain what they are and why they’re so important. Well, basically, Bitcoin can be described as the currency of the people. I mean, for a start, let’s distinguish between Bitcoin and all the other cryptocurrencies. So Bitcoin is the first one. It was given to the world by an anonymous individual or group of individuals called Satoshi Nakamoto, and it was put into the cyber universe exactly at the time of the big crash, right after the Lehman Brothers crash. So the timing was perfect, which makes us think that perhaps whoever Nakamoto is, is somebody from the system, that knows very well how the system works.
What is really Bitcoin? Bitcoin is a currency which is produced by software, and this software performs all the task that a true currency should perform. So we’re not talking about the US dollars. We’re not talking about the pound or currency. They’re constantly devalued because of inflation, but we’re talking about the all style currency that was linked to gold and it was produced and it was in circulation according to the rules of the gold standards, which of course were very few for a very short time. So Bitcoin is produced by software. So it’s not controlled by any central bank, it’s not controlled by any governments.
The software has been programmed in a way in which these Bitcoin are released in blocks by an activity, which is called mining, and this activity is solution of mathematical formulas. The solution of mathematical formulas becomes increasingly more and more difficult. Now, why is that? Because whoever created this currency wants to guarantee a scarcity. So there is a limited number of Bitcoin t will be produced, which is 21 million. The time scale is going to be a century and a half almost, and the timing has to be every 10 minutes a block is produced. The timing and all of this structure is guaranteed by the difficulties of solving the mathematical formula.
So this is quite complex, complex system which initially was not really understood. At the very, very beginning, kids used to solve the mathematical formula like with skates, that kind of stuff, and then used the Bitcoin for various things. There’s an interesting story of somebody that bought a pizza using your Bitcoins, for example. But as we went through the financial crisis, it became increasingly clear the Bitcoin was an alternative to the fiat currencies, which clearly after 2008 had lost their meaning.
Most of the bailout, for example, that was given to the banks was produced by clicking a few keys on the treasury computer. So in other words, money doesn’t exist. So this is the issue that Bitcoin trying to address to create a currency that will give you that stability and trust and will not be controlled by anybody else.
So the controlling system is all based upon the people that participate in the system. So you download your software from a computer, which is of course free for everybody. You start investing. You become a member of the Bitcoin community, and you are the one together with all the others that will evaluate the various activities that are taking place.
So everything that happened is right there, is transparent, is in the clear. The solution, even the mathematical solution of the formula, and this is very important, once somebody manages to solve the formula and so a block is released, the entire community of people who are connected, so they’re part of the Bitcoin community, has to approve that solution.
So this is called proof of work. So it is quite complex to do it because we’re talking about millions of people. This is why Ethereum, which is another cryptocurrency came after Bitcoin, decided not to use the approval work, but to use a limited amount of people that would actually evaluate if that solution was right or not, but I disagree with that. I think if it’s the currency of the people should be in control, the control should be among the people.
So that’s more or less is… Oh, yeah. Then there is the other thing which is about to happen by the way, because in April, well, between the end of March to the beginning of May, there will be the halving. So every about four years, so every 21,000 blocks which are released, the number of blocks, the number of Bitcoins contained in the block is reduced in half. So at the very beginning, it was 50 bitcoins. Today we’re at 6.75. And then in a few months after the 9:49 halving will be at 3.75. So that is a mechanism in place in order to guarantee that the Bitcoin is not inflated, and also to guarantee that whoever is using the Bitcoin does not use it for speculation. How widely used is it? Well, at the moment, Bitcoin is widely used. We just got the approval for Bitcoin by the FDA. So basically every single big bank is using Bitcoin for investment, trading, the Bitcoins into the open. So this kind of recognition was very, very important. Now there was a reluctance, of course, to do that, but in the end they had to accept that the popularity of the Bitcoin is a reality. So finance, if they can make money for something, they will go and make the money and there are money to be made, of course, in Bitcoin. But the key issue here is the fact that Bitcoin is a threat to the currencies in circulation in every single state, so the US dollars or… Bitcoin is a transnational currency, so it’s a currency that you can use everywhere, but it is a threat to the monopoly, to the monetary monopoly of the central bank, and that is why they try to stop it, but they couldn’t stop it. They couldn’t even put it out of law. They have done it with other currencies before because the software… I mean, you can’t put the software on trial, right?
They don’t know who Satoshi Nakamoto is, so they can’t arrest them. Of course, the community of the Bitcoin holders is the people so you can’t stop the people from doing it. At the end of the day, money is based on an act of faith. You trust that the US dollar is worth something. In fact, in the US dollar it says in God we trust, meaning it’s a bit of [inaudible 00:12:23].
Let’s talk about all the cryptocurrency fraud, the queen of cryptocurrency from Bulgaria, you write about her in the book. There’s also a lot of people have been fleeced in this digital currency world. At the very beginning, again, we’re talking about Bitcoin, so Bitcoin was the first one, and then a few years later we got other currencies. The One Coin, the one I talk about, Bulgaria clearly was a fraud and a scam. So looking at Bitcoin, even Bitcoin was used for illegal activity, was used in the Silk Road, for example, in the Darknet. Now, why was that? Because, I mean, it was a mean of exchange. There was no control and nobody knew really how traceable Bitcoin is, but once this became clear… Because what I have not explained to you is that every single block which is released is then logged into a blockchain. So the moment in which the proof of work is approved, that block becomes part of a chain. Inside that blockchain, we have all the information about the block, so who solved the formula, at what time and so on and so forth. Let’s call it block number five. Okay.
Every single time the Bitcoin contains in block number five are sold, purchase, halve, you can sell halve of it, for example, and keep that halve, everything is put in another block which is attached to that block. So let’s call it block 5A, and it stays right there. You can’t delete it. You can alter. That’s the blockchain technology which is behind the Bitcoin. So every single moment you can go into the software and see the life of every single Bitcoin was produced from day one, was in January 2009. So once this was understood, then the Bitcoin became one of the worst currency to use for illegal activity because you can trace it every single moment.
Now, if you want to do money laundering, for example, of course, you will have to move the Bitcoin from one of the blocks. Let’s say you have done some activities illegal and you’re been paid in bitcoins, so nobody has seen that from the point of view of the authorities, but the moment in which you want to change that Bitcoin into a currency, right? Because you do need to money launder those money. What are you going to do with the Bitcoin? Otherwise, it’s not sits there. That in that moment, then that is going to be registered automatically into the block. So this is how the monetary authorities but also the anti-terrorism, the anti-drug squads have unveiled several of these activities used through Bitcoin and of course, they have arrested people. So today actually Bitcoin is one of the least used currency because most of the illegal activity and criminal activity is actually done in cash because cash is still king when it comes down to traceability.
Well, let’s talk about the fraud, I mean, because these cryptocurrency empires have a pretty rapidly deflated. Well, the FTX, I think is the best possible example, but then again, it is not the cryptocurrency per se. Again, I want to distinguish between Bitcoin and the other cryptocurrencies because I’m a great believer of Bitcoin but not a believer in the other cryptos because Bitcoin is the only one that has this kind of system that I explained to you. The others are much more loose. But in any case, I mean, the FTX story is very significant because how did it happen? Well, Sam Bankman-Fried was a trader, I mean, was one of those intelligent mathematical kids and he was trading and then all of a sudden he discover that there were discrepancies in arbitrage between one place, another place. In other words, if you bought Bitcoin in Tokyo, you actually got a better rate than if you bought Bitcoins in New York. Now, this is at the very beginning, so we’re talking about seven or eight years ago. So he thought, “Well, great, let’s exploit these differences,” and he made quite a lot of money. Then at that point, he decided that he was going to create an exchange. Basically, the exchange was doing what he was doing, so making money out of the discrepancies in prices due to the geographical position. But then it started to produce its own cryptocurrency, which of course was out of nowhere. I mean, it was not Bitcoin.
It was that it didn’t have a software system. Just one day he decided, “Well, I’m going to issue this currency.” People started flocking and wanting to buy, especially celebrities.
Now, the guy was very popular among celebrities. This is another thing also this sort of tech titans is that they live in a ghetto, which is the super rich ghetto and everybody wants to make even more money using the expertise and knowledge of one another. So he start getting hundreds of millions from various people in order to invest in on exchange. He took the money, of course, in dollars or other currencies, and in exchange he gave them cryptocurrency. So basically the participation exchange was based upon exchange at the end of the day, dollars for this cryptocurrency. Now, why did they buy this cryptocurrencies? Why did they do that? Well, because they thought that it was so smart and that they idea of the crypto exchange was so incredibly appealing that they thought, “I get today the cryptocurrency that is producing at an exchange of,” let’s say, “one-to-one to the dollar, and then you carry on making so much money, then it’s cryptocurrency is going to go up in value, and so it’s going to be more two to the dollar and I’ll be doubling immediately all my money.” Okay. So it’s a scam, but it is also a scam that was supported by people who participated into the scam, who were the victims of the scam, because it’s the classic story of people that come to you and say, “Oh, if you give me this money, I’m going to invest in that. You’ll double your money.”
Does all of this threaten the hegemony of the dollar? Because of course, the power of the dollar is that it is the world’s reserve currency and once it loses that hegemony, it is going to be catastrophic to the American financial system. Yeah, I think it’s going to be catastrophic not only to the financial system, but it’s going to be catastrophic also to the power of the state. So imagine a world, where you do not have anymore currencies, but you only have Bitcoin or something similar to the Bitcoin. So software will produce it and then your people will control it. So how is the state going to be able to print billions and billions of dollars to save the financial sector from yet another crisis? That would be impossible because the state won’t be in control of the Bitcoin. Okay. But also how would the state print the money to finance the war in the Ukraine? Because of course, the state will not have control over the money supply. Money is key. Money supply is the pillar, the biggest pillar of power or political power.
This is what the cyberpunk… At the very beginning in the book, I started the book with the story of the cyberpunk group of computer scientists in the Bay Area in the 1980s and these people wanted to guarantee the protection of the individual inside the net, so to prevent the state from controlling the net and from spying on people on the net also. They produce a cryptographic system to guarantee the people will be able to talk to each other without being spied by the state, but they couldn’t possibly, I mean, produce a way in which people would not have to use banks to do transactions because there was the real barrier.
If you want to buy something, you got to buy it through a bank, through a credit card, and you have to pay through a currency which is, of course, control by state. And then came Satoshi Nakamoto, but he came 20 years later. So I think this is the real threat now.
That’s explained also why the state is now trying to produce its own digital currency, which is not a crypto, but it is considered like crypto. So they’re trying to catch up, but I am a firm believer that this potentially… If bitcoins really take off, this potentially could change the structure of the nation state. Let’s talk about crypto-anarchy and then you mentioned Julian Assange, and I just want you to play out his opposition to the crypto-anarchists.
Well, so the crypto-anarchists are… So the cyberpunks was a group of computer scientists all from the US. The only one that was not from the US was Julian Assange. Now, it was a very strange group of people because I mean, they were connected through technology, so they were all very much pioneers in the computer science, but politically they were very different. So there was a very strong group of libertarians, for example, I mean, the classic American libertarians where the state should not have anything to do with me, I can look after myself, that kind of stuff. But there were also people, they were quite, I wouldn’t say necessarily right wing, but almost intellectually racist because these people were very smart, but also I think some of these people have serious social problem of interaction. They were on the spectrum of Asperger. Anyway, so part of this group was talking about a sort of supremacy of the smart guys over the people. So they were considering the people as a sort of inferior kind of groups that had to be ruled, they had to be directed, that they did not have the same kind of understanding of what’s right and what’s wrong that they did. Now, Assange was very much against that. They had a mailing list, which was a mailing list where people would exchange. We’re talking about still at the time, which there was CompuServe, so very before we had the internet as we have it today and the mail system. So they had this mail system where they could talk to each other and exchange ideas and proposals. Within this mailing list, it was all cryptographic, so only them that could see it. There was a very heated exchange and discussion between this group of crypto-anarchists, if you want to call them, and Assange who instead said, “This is an instrument through which we can empower the people. The people should know. The people should be allowed to make decisions.”
And then Assange went on, of course, to create WikiLeaks, which did exactly that. What did the rest do? Because they became, as you call them, the new robber barons. You have examples in there. Uber is a good example. But they harnessed this technology to essentially carry out vast campaigns of pillage and greed against the rest of us.
Well, I mean. We have several examples. Now, in all fairness, most of the robber barons were not part of the cyberpunk mailing list necessarily, although several of them, especially the founders, they became immensely rich because, of course, they were in the industry at the very beginning.
So they stopped working, taking away several millions of dollars so they could do whatever they wanted. But I would say that the robber barons is very much the generation that comes right after people like Assange. In fact, there are some of them, they’re younger, 10 years, not very much, but these are the one who came to this kind of business through video games.
So, forget about politics. See, now, we have the very beginning, the internet was considered an instrument of empowering people and also bring about democracy into the society. Then a decade later, we have kids who have grown up playing video games who actually know the functioning of the internet extremely well, and they spot certain kind of situations where being computer-savvy, knowing how to code, because that’s the other thing, could create a business model that could enrich them immensely. And then they started. So the first wave made quite a lot of money, sold their businesses, and then they became the so-called serial entrepreneurs.
What is the serial entrepreneur? Well, this is robber baron basically because they spotted an opportunity. They learned from that opportunity. They made a lot of money from that opportunity, and then they decided to reproduce that model in another sector at the higher and higher and higher scale. Now, all of this was motivated by profit. So there’s absolutely no desire to produce anything that can enrich society. This is why I’m talking about the common good. Possibly, this is due to the fact that these people grew up with video games, so for them it’s all a game. See what I mean? That there is this filter of the internet, which doesn’t really make them understand exactly what does it mean to be exploited, or exploited, I would say by the system, but possibly also because of their ego, because all of a sudden being a serial entrepreneur, being Jeff Bezos for example, or being Elon Musk or Peter Thiel was of the maximum that you could achieve, so everything was allowed to you because you were… Except those original members of the cyberpunk because you are smarter than the others. But they’re not smarter. They’re smarter in terms of technology. There’s a wonderful short story by Stefan Zweig about the world chess champion, and everybody thinks because he’s the world chess champion, he’s wise about everything else. The conceit of the story is that he’s sort of an idiot about everything else. I think you do a pretty good job of exposing, especially figures like Elon Musk, and you get into the whole space industry are kind of idiots. What they do know how to do is harness this new technology to exploit.
So, just let’s give some examples. First, I want you to talk about blockchains, and then I want you to give the example of Uber because it’s kind of a classic example of how that technology is used as a bait at the beginning and then a form of really horrific oppression by the time it’s cemented into place in terms of timing and exclusion and all that kind of stuff. But talk about blockchains and then just talk about the case of Uber. Well, I mean, okay, blockchain is what we have in Bitcoins.
So potentially actually blockchain could change completely the way we interact at commercial level. It also could make obsolete phenomenal amount of work. So now we’re all talking about, yes, AI is going to make lots of people out of work, which is absolutely true, but the blockchain comes before AI. So let’s say you don’t need anymore to have a lawyer if you have these contracts, which are smart contracts, whereby the contract states that if certain circumstances are verifying, for example, a divorce, then automatically the division of wealth is going to be such, and this is signed and done, and that stays in the blockchain, so can verify they was done a certain date. Then the situation verifies, and then here you are, you’re not going to court, you’re not doing any because you already have the agreement in place. Now, this is a very simple example. But blockchain also could be applied to smart cars. So here you are, eventually, you can have a driverless car, which through a smart contract will go by itself, will drive itself for a change of oil after a certain number of miles and go to the mechanic. They will do the change of oil or maybe the robot, they will do the change of oil, and pay automatically, because in the smart contract, which is again in the blockchain, you will have all of this information. When the certain number of miles will be reached that verifies, then all of this is going to happen. I mean, that’s what blockchain could do, and the same thing is for voting. Now, it can be positive. It can be negative. It all depends. This is the issue. The issue is all of this technology can be immensely, immensely positive for us provided it’s put in the hands of the people for the common good.
Well, of course, it is controlled by a limited number of individuals. Here we go to Uber, because at the end of the day, the concept of Uber, which by the way, the story is quite interesting because the guy, one of the two founders of Uber, he’s a Canadian and he sold his first startup for quite a lot of money and then he moved to San Francisco where he was working for the company that actually boat his original startup, but he was doing nothing, right?
So he was going clubbing every night in San Francisco and he was watching James Bond movies.
So this is the kind of people were talking about, okay, these kids. So anyway, while he was watching Casino Royale, he sees that James Bond is calling his car with the smartphone through a map to come and pick him up at the casino. So at that point, he has this idea to create a system that would use the smartphone and the maps that Google had just put on the market in order to call a cab a night after going clubbing. Now, the problem was that you couldn’t find cabs because it was a shortage of cabs in San Francisco. So yes, the idea to use rental cars, the blue cars, the one that you can rent, what we call in the UK Minicabs, and put them on a map so that you could interact in the map and call them and see who is available and blah, blah, blah. So this is how he got the idea. And then eventually, he did develop the first Uber app, thanks to the technology.
Now, of course, he knew the technology because he was somebody who understood technology or knowledge of technology. The Minicab company in the UK that were doing that kind of service did not know the technology, so they couldn’t do it. They couldn’t do the app themselves. Now, today, everybody has the app, but we’re talking about a time in which really was a great idea. And then he had this idea that why using these cars, why not using normal cars? Why not using normal people so people can make an extra back basically driving people around through the app? Initially, it was very appealing to the drivers and to the passengers because it put together… So it was a system where he put together two people that were happy to do business together. I mean, the drivers were all self-employed, so they got a good return for their work, but then as the system developed, everything changed because of greed, of course. So Uber starts taking more and more and more percentage out of the driver, and then it start conditioning the driver also, forcing the driver to accept certain rides. Well, and punishing the driver if they don’t.
I think in the book, they have 15 minutes or something, and if they don’t accept, then they can’t even get work. Yeah, exactly. Then if you do not accept, I think it’s three rides in a row, you are locked out for 24 hours or for 24 hours. But you see, I mean, I was in Calgary just now and I was picked up by Uber driver and this guy was telling me that he had lost his job. I think he was from West Africa. He had family, a new baby, another child.
The wife was not working, had lost his job, and he was doing Uber driving just to integrate salary, but now he was driving all the time. He was telling me that the situation hasn’t changed at all. I mean, Uber takes a big, big cut out of every single ride. I asked him, I said, why don’t you go and work for a taxi company?” He said, “There aren’t taxi companies.”
See, that’s the other thing because Uber has driven out of the market in certain places, not everywhere, in certain places, all the competition. Now, that is another element of what I talk about the book. These people have been able to create oligopolistic position for themselves and the few other people like them who actually can master technology kicking out everybody else. Now, that should not happen because this is again competition policy, but the only place where they’re trying actually to stop them and to implement competition law is the EU. In the US, it’s completely wild market. Well, they also skirt laws, labor laws, regulations. Because they’re a new technology, there’s no real oversight and they exploit it.
There’s a lot in the book. I just want to close because you do at the end of the book with SpaceX space exploration and eco side, but here’s where you really lay out how technologically these people are quite gifted, but in terms of understanding reality, the world around them, and of course, what we face in a moment of climate catastrophe, they’re utterly clueless.
You really make that point around this whole idea that we’re all going to live on Mars or something. So, let’s close- Isn’t absurd?
Of course, it’s completely absurd, but let’s talk about it because they don’t think it’s absurd. I mean, you actually write the physics of what being in a situation with zero gravity does to your… It destroys your body. I mean, it’s not even sustainable. But go ahead, I’ll let you talk.
Well, I mean, it took me a long time to write that section. I had to have doctors working for me to make understand because, okay, so Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos come across as if they know it all. Because you think if these people become billionaires, of course, I must believe what they’re saying. Well, it’s not because it’s absolutely not true. Now, the reason why they’re talking about going to Mars, colonized, being a multi-planetary civilization and stuff is because that kind of thought appeals to people, because people like to dream about us being able to conquer the universe.
So through that appeal, then they can get the real objective, which is basically to colonize the low Earth orbit. Now, the only place where the human body can live in space for a limited still amount of time, so we’re talking maximum one year with massive exercises to reduce the bond density phenomenon due to the lack of gravity, it is the low Earth orbit because the low Earth orbit still has a little bit of gravity, so you’re not completely out of gravity. So the reason why they want to colonize the low Earth orbit is because this is where the business of the future is going to be done. I mean forget about the Moon, forget about the asteroids. I mean, even if in a future not too far away, we could go and mine asteroids, you will have to do it with robots and the robots will have to live from the low Earth orbit. So that will be the center of distribution of activity in order to mine space. But for now, the reason why they want to colonize the low Earth orbit is because of telecommunication. So because they put satellites there and then here we are, they will mine our data, suck our brains basically through their satellites. There are places already in the world, like you go to the north of Canada, the very north of Canada where there’s no internet.
The only internet is Starlink. So Elon Musk is the only one who provides internet there places in the Pacific, in the Atlantic, or there is no internet. So you can get very good internet through Starlink.
Now, another thing I want to add is why is this data so important? Everybody says, “Oh yes, data is how they managed to manipulate elections.” Well, the truth is the data with AI now is also going to be the fundamental factors of the future of warfare. Without that data, you’re not going to be able to go to war anymore. Whoever is going to have the most amount of data, because this is how AI actually improves, is going to have a distinctive advantage over all the others.
So I think that again, they are a step ahead of us, but they’re also step ahead of governments, and the reason why they’re a step ahead of us and governments is because most people and most governments do not even bother understanding what the technological revolution is all about.
So it is our fault, and that’s what I say in the book, we got to wake up from it. I mean, we’re sleepwalking. This is the end of the book. I said, “We’re sleepwalking into dystopia and we don’t even realize.” We think everything is fantastic because we can see each other on Instagram, we can talk to each other on Facebook, and we do not understand. I mean, what are you doing to prevent the flattening of the lithium batteries? Okay. So I think a lot of journalists do not do their job properly anymore because they don’t have money, because I mean, newspapers and magazines don’t have money, but the government, for God’s sake, they do have money, so why there are not expertise from the government contesting that kind of information that is put through the various channels that these guys control? Well, in order to sustain this technological revolution, as you point out in the book, it’s an acceleration of our assault on the planet. So on the one hand, of course, we are given all these gadgets and toys, but we’re actually obliterating… In order for this revolution to happen, we’re obliterating what future we have left. This is why the idea of colonized Mars is part of the narrative, because the truth is that if you tell people, “Well, don’t worry too much about climate change. Don’t worry too much about overpopulation.” Shall we discuss overpopulation also? Because we’re going to go and colonize Mars, and then Mars is going to be as beautiful as Earth, or Jeff Bezos comes with these weird ideas to create artificial planets inside, which of course, people could live. There’s a film, I think it’s called Elysium. It’s a film where there is one of those artificial where the poor people are on the Earth, they’re left behind, blah, blah, and all the rich people live in these artificial planets which are absolutely beautiful, and they all look like California, of course, where the weather is always nice. It’s not cold, blah, blah. Clearly, if you fall into that trap, you don’t worry so much about the planet because you think, “Well, there is a solution.” Well, no, there is no solution. This is the only planet we have. If we do not save this planet, our grandchildren will not be able to survive. And that’s the point of the book.
Yeah, this is the point of the book. Now, if all of this technology, because all this technology was put at the use of the common good, that technology could reverse everything, could reverse the climate change. Of course, it is not going to solve the problem of overpopulation, which is a problem that we have to address in a different way, but technology could, for example, provide zero energy production for the entire planet. You can put solar plants in the low Earth orbit, which harness the ray of the sun, and then send through microwave messages, microwave rays that send it to Earth, and they can power the entire planet. You know who is using this technology at the moment? I mean, the US is using that technology to produce the microwave weapon.
That’s right. Depends who has it. Technology is a neutral force. Exactly. Exactly. It serves whoever controls it. Between what Society depend uh determines to be paranoid and then what is actually a standard operating way to live your life. Now for me I’m watching the ATM just as closely in fact going to the ATM is one of those times that Kelly and I will take a sort of Buddy watch system where nobody’s just sitting there looking at their phone oblivious to what else is happening in the world. ‘Forever Chemicals’ Linked to Increased Mortality From Heart Disease, Kidney and Testicular Cancer
A new study by Italian researchers is the first to formally demonstrate the link between PFAS exposure and cardiovascular mortality in the world’s largest exposed population.
Exposure to PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” is associated with an increased risk of mortality from cardiovascular disease, kidney cancer and testicular cancer, according to a new Italian study.
The longitudinal study, published April 16 in Environmental Health, is the first to formally demonstrate the link between perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances exposure and cardiovascular mortality in the world’s largest exposed population, according to the authors.
The findings add to the growing body of evidence on the health risks associated with PFAS, a group of synthetic chemicals used in a wide range of consumer products and industrial applications.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) last week announced it finalized a rule designating PFOA and PFOS as hazardous substances under the Superfund law. And on April 10, the agency announced the first enforceable legal limits for PFAS in drinking water.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week published an update on testing results for PFAS in food, indicating potential danger with the chemicals accumulating in fish. Additionally, it disclosed a revised testing method that can identify nearly twice as many PFAS chemicals in food.
The area has been affected by PFAS water contamination since the 1980s, primarily due to emissions from a manufacturing plant that produced PFAS-containing products.
The area qualified as “the world’s largest episode of PFAS water contamination reported so far,” according to the study’s authors.
The researchers analyzed mortality data of nearly 60,000 people from 1980 to 2018, comparing the exposed population to a reference group from the same region.
They found that during the 34 years following the onset of PFAS contamination in 1985, the exposed population experienced 3,890 more deaths than expected based on the mortality rates of the reference group.
“In other words, every three days there were 12 deaths vs. 11 expected,” the authors said.
The excess deaths were largely attributed to cardiovascular disease, with the exposed population showing a significantly higher risk of dying from heart diseases, especially ischemic heart disease, characterized by the buildup of coronary plaque known as atherosclerosis that blocks arteries over time.
The study also found increased mortality from kidney and testicular cancers, consistent with previous research suggesting a link between PFAS exposure and these malignancies.
In the most affected area studied (Red area A), the odds of mortality from kidney cancer were 73% higher from 2015 to 2018.
Between 1985 and 1999, the researchers found an overall 40% increase in the odds of mortality from testicular cancer and a 156% increase for the most affected area.
However, no additional risk was noted after 1999, which the authors attributed to improvements in the treatment of the disease.
The strength of the Italian study lies in its unique design, which leverages the “great and tragic natural experiment” of the PFAS contamination in the Veneto region.
By comparing the exposed population to a reference group from the same area, the researchers were able to control for potential confounding factors and establish a clearer link between PFAS exposure and health outcomes.
However, the researchers acknowledged some limitations, such as the reliance on aggregate data at the municipality level and the inability to adjust for individual-level factors like smoking or diet.
Study authors call for immediate ban on PFAS production
The researchers suggested PFAS exposure may lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease through two main pathways: the development of atherosclerosis and the occurrence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
“PFOA [perfluorooctanoic acid, a widely studied PFAS chemical] increases the serum levels of total cholesterol and low-density cholesterol,” the authors explained, citing previous studies.
Elevated cholesterol levels are well-established risk factors for atherosclerosis, a condition characterized by the buildup of plaque in the arteries, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.
PFAS serum levels in children, adolescents and young adults in the region were also associated with several markers of cardiovascular disease, including blood pressure, triglyceride levels, total cholesterol and low-density cholesterol.
The authors also noted the possible role of diabetes in cardiovascular disease among PFAS-exposed individuals, finding an excess risk after 2010. They suggested future research on this topic.
“Associations of serum PFAS concentrations with multiple glycemic indicators of type 2 diabetes like glucose and insulin have often been reported, but epidemiological studies have yielded more conflicting results,” they stated.
The researchers proposed that the psychological impact of living in a PFAS-contaminated area may contribute to the development of PTSD which may in turn be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
“Exposure to an environmental contamination resulting from industrial processes or accidents is psychologically stressful for the affected communities,” they wrote.
One local study cited in the paper noted high levels of parental anxiety regarding the health and quality of life of their children due to PFAS exposure.
Chronic stress can also increase the risk for hypertension and ischemic heart disease, the researchers pointed out, while stress itself, from any source, “interacts with exposure to pollutants and amplifies their effects by compromising, for example, the immune system.”
PFAS chemicals also have been linked to alterations in lipid metabolism during pregnancy and endocrine disruption, which can contribute to the development of chronic diseases.
The findings on kidney and testicular cancer are consistent with previous research, the authors noted, including a recent reevaluation by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which classified PFOA as “carcinogenic to humans” and PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid, another common PFAS chemical) as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.”
“Our findings add some evidence to the existing literature,” the study authors wrote while acknowledging the evidence for testicular cancer was limited by the reliance on mortality data, as advances in treatment have improved survival rates.
The researchers called for an immediate ban on PFAS production and the implementation of additional remediation activities in contaminated areas, given their findings and the recent IARC revision.
The action, which drew attention to the growing concern over the health effects of “forever chemicals,” empowers the EPA to compel polluters to pay for or conduct investigations and cleanup of PFAS contamination.
The rule requires that entities immediately report releases of PFOA and PFOS that meet or exceed the reportable quantity of one pound within 24 hours to the National Response Center and to state, tribal and local emergency responders.
EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan called the new PFAS strategic roadmap “a whole-of-agency approach to protecting public health and addressing the harm to communities overburdened by PFAS pollution.”
Regan said the Superfund authority “will allow EPA to address more contaminated sites, take earlier action, and expedite cleanups, all while ensuring polluters pay for the costs to clean up pollution threatening the health of communities.”
The EPA’s action is based on scientific evidence demonstrating that exposure to PFOA and PFOS is linked to adverse health effects, including various cancers, cardiovascular and immune system damage, decreased fertility in women and adverse neurodevelopmental effects in children.
The EPA’s announcement highlighted $9 billion in funding to address PFAS and other emerging contaminants in drinking water, and an additional $12 billion supporting general drinking water investments, including PFAS treatment.
Environmental and public health advocates praised the EPA’s action. “It’s long past time for the polluters who poisoned all of us to be held responsible,” said Ken Cook, president and co-founder of Environmental Working Group.
“This decision is particularly welcomed by communities residing near these bases and Superfund sites, who have long been frustrated by the EPA’s perceived inaction in compelling polluters to address their pollution,” wrote environmental scientist Mindi Messmer on her Substack.
Messmer was referring to the PFAS contamination at the former Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which has adulterated the coastal shellfish population and the Coakley Landfill Superfund Site, which has polluted drinking water wells in several New Hampshire towns.
FDA update of PFAS testing of food samples
The FDA in an April 18 PFAS update reported on its recent testing of nearly 1,300 food samples — including “bread and grains; fruits and vegetables; and, meat, eggs, and dairy products, including milk” — as part of its Total Diet Study or from what it collected as part of targeted assignments.
The agency has been testing for 16 different types of PFAS. The results so far reveal that the majority of the tested foods do not contain detectable levels of these substances.
Reporting on one dataset of 95 samples, the FDA detected PFAS in eight samples — “two beef and two cod samples, and one sample each of shrimp, salmon, catfish, and tilapia” — but stated that the levels measured were “not likely to be a health concern for young children or the general population.”
The FDA noted the higher levels of PFAS found in fish and seafood may be due to the potential of “filter feeders, such as clams, but also other bivalve mollusks, including oysters, mussels, and scallops” to bioaccumulate more environmental contaminants than other types of sea animals.
To address the growing concerns, the FDA developed new analytical methods to detect and quantify PFAS in food samples, including an updated method that can measure 30 different PFAS types in various “food matrices.”
The agency is also working with state and local authorities to identify and investigate areas with known PFAS contamination and to assess the safety of locally grown and produced foods.

Antarctica is home to glorious mountain ranges wrapped in glacial ice. If you at them long enough, you might start to notice a strange geometric pattern — some of the peaks are oddly, perfectly pyramid-shaped. This, if you belong to certain corners of the internet, can only mean one thing: aliens.
Besides, as the thinking goes, the base (or bases) was secret, so it stands to reason that such a facility (or facilities) would not be extensively documented or cataloged (or perhaps even mentioned), and it has not been proven that there are no UFO bases underneath the icy wastelands.
Now, using Google Earth we found an area of open water surrounded by sea ice in which you can see a perfect circular structure below the Arctic water.
This amazing structure is not something natural but an underwater base created by an alien race or a secret society who use the base for their secret “UFO” operations.
Besides, as the thinking goes, the base (or bases) was secret, so it stands to reason that such a facility (or facilities) would not be extensively documented or cataloged (or perhaps even mentioned), and it has not been proven that there are no UFO bases underneath the icy wastelands.

IT’S THE most outlandish alien theory yet. Beings from outer space establishing secret bases on Earth, and travelling in ships that are just as much at home beneath the sea as they are in the skies. Beyond belief? Perhaps. But a new book expounding the idea is written by one of the world’s most respected authorities on UFOs, Timothy Good, and his findings are supported by one of Britain’s most senior military men, retired Admiral of the Fleet Lord Hill-Norton.

On the morning of September 4, 1971, four members of the National Geographic Institute of Costa Rica were flying in a twin-engine aircraft 10,000 ft above Lake Cote, near the Central American state’s forbidding Arenal volcano. A special map-making camera was slung underneath their plane. It was automatic and large-format, and every 20 seconds it took another photograph of the lake beneath. When the photographs were developed, one of the frames showed what seemed to be a metallic disc about 160 ft in diameter, which had just left, or was on the point of entering, the lake. It was giving off light, and had made a sudden maneuver at the instant the photo was taken. The object showed up on neither the previous frame of film nor the one afterwards.
Checks on the negative eliminated tricks of the light as an explanation. What the geographers had seen was an extraordinary but little-known phenomenon – a USO. Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs, have been reported for centuries. What few people realize is that USOs-Unidentified Submersible Objects – have been reported for almost as long. Sometimes, as in the mysterious incident at Lake Cote, a UFO can be seen transforming itself into a USO, or vice versa.
Lake Cote is extremely deep, and there have been numerous other reports of unknown submersible craft entering and leaving it. Local fishermen, out on the lake in the small hours, have seen various objects below them, giving off colored lights. Sometimes the movement of these objects has caused the men to lose their balance and risk plunging into the water. They have also been blamed for a reduction in the fish population. One morning, around 9am, two men heard a metallic noise coming from the lake and saw an object emerge

ge that was shaped like a submarine with three ‘domes’ on its top. It hung there for a few seconds, then shot off towards the mountains to the north. Other USO’s have been seen in lakes and open seas around the world, sometimes giving out light, sometimes deeply submerged, sometimes just below the surface, sometimes skimming across it – and sometimes, as at Lake Cote, entering or leaving.
Evidently, many of the objects we are accustomed to call UFOs can just as easily travel in water as in the air. On the night of November 6, 1973, a unique encounter with a USO occurred off the coast of America. Fishermen in Pascagoula, Mississippi, reported it, coastguards confirmed it. There were nine witnesses. The object was circular or elliptical in shape, about 12ft long, and gave out a beam of amber light. The two fishermen who raised the alarm said it looked like ‘a mini-submarine’ and hovered about 4ft below them in the water. It was so close that they tried to hit it with their paddles.
HOWEVER, each time they tried to make contact, the light would go out and reappear in another position. When coastguard officers were summoned, they, too, tried to hit the USO. They succeeded, and reported that the object, whatever it was, felt metallic. The coastguards made detailed notes. The object, they said, had a parachute-like shape and moved at a speed of six to eight knots, making steadily for deeper water. The intensity of its light varied from nothing to a glare that was sometimes too bright to look at. When a torch was shone at it, the light ‘turned off’ until the beam was removed. ‘The phenomena observed were not consistent with any known fish, other marine life or known light source,’ concluded the coastguard report.
So what was in the water- and why was it there?
THERE is one place in the world where reports of Unidentified Submersible Objects are particularly frequent, and particularly strange. Puerto Rico, the Caribbean’s so called Island of Enchantment, lies in one corner of the area that has become known as the Bermuda Triangle, renowned for the disappearances of ships and boats, and for sightings of ‘flying saucers’. It is here, in this former US. colony, whose politics and defense are still inextricably bound up with America, that much of my research into the USO phenomenon has focused.
A great deal of the strange activity around the island has centered on the 28,000 acres of mountainous rain-forest known as El Yunque, on the north-eastern coast. Jose Orlando Golis, who works for the Puerto Rican government, lives close to El Yunque. ‘Many people have seen UFOs flying over the water close to the surface,’ he told me. ‘Once, at 1 am, we saw one with many colored lights flying next to the sea just over the surface. ‘At first we thought it was a boat. It seemed to be dark underneath and had lights – mostly red and blue at another, upper level. Then it angled and moved upwards. It made a humming sound, and seemed to head in the direction of El Yunque.’ Felix Rivera is a diver with an underwater salvage company based near the American Naval Air Station which adjoins El Yunque, one of many U.S. bases on the island.
He confirmed to me that UFOs and USO’s have frequently been observed often by American military personnel. ‘Navy Seals – America’s elite special forces – have seen USOs here,’ he revealed. ‘Some have told me that these things will often come up close to boats, then shoot off. They move too fast underwater to be ours.’ Another hotspot of activity is off the south-west coast. In an area known as Cayo Margarita, 15 miles out in the Atlantic, many fishermen, as well as commercial and private pilots, claim to have seen USOs entering or emerging from the sea. Fisherman Aristides Medina said: ‘Once, I was fishing late at night and two of them passed under my boat, radiating a blue light. On other occasions, I have seen them when they emerge from the water and fly away at great speed.’ He has also seen them plunge into the water – and always in the same area of the sea. It would seem these objects have definite preferences as to which part of the ocean they choose to emerge from and enter.
REMARKABLY vivid sighting was reported by a diver called Inocencia Cataquet. He was in the water off Pena Blancas in the north-east of the island when he came across what appeared to be a disc-shaped submersible craft, lying on the seabed. The craft seemed to be camouflaged with a sand-like material in order to blend in with its surroundings. Next to it lay a rectangular object, with a transparent cable, which was moving around in the water. As if in reaction to the divers presence, the cable was suddenly retracted. Unnerved, Cataquet raced for the surface – in time to see the disc emerge from the water with a loud buzzing sound and fly away. WHAT is going on here? If strange metallic craft are emerging from the waters around Puerto Rico on anything like a regular basis, it is inconceivable that the military authorities could be unaware of it.
Some of the American bases in the area have exactly the sort of equipment that would be needed to track an object from the unknown. For example, there is the huge aerostat, or tethered balloon, that flies 15,OOO ft above the island’s south-west coast, with radar installations slung beneath it to monitor air traffic. A number of witnesses claim to have seen strange flying objects in the vicinity. Puerto Rico is also host to the unique radio-telescope at Arecibo, a natural crater turned into the parabolic bowl of a gigantic receiving antenna – the largest and most sensitive radio-telescope in the world. ONE of the acknowledged roles of Arecibo is as a listening post for alien lifeforms broadcasting from outer space.
The project is known as SETI – the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. Yet, ironically, unusual craft and beings have been reported around the radio observatory itself. A large boomerang-shaped object was seen `hanging’ above the telescope. One night, witnesses saw a huge disc in the sky, followed by three triangular shaped objects. Is the paradoxical truth that, while SETI looks for extraterrestrial beings light years away, they are operating on its own doorstep? On a visit to the site in January 1999, I interviewed the observatory’s Dr Jost, Alonso. He told me that many local people believe the observatory is a focus for UFO activity. `This is a complicated issue,’ he said. `Sometimes I think military experiments are responsible for what people are seeing.
There are people who say this is a US. government cover-up. ‘As to aliens, statistically, there has to be something. There are between 200 to 400 billion stars in our galaxy, and 10 pc of them are of the same type as our sun. `If other life forms exist, it’s only a matter of time and technology before contact is made.’ Certainly, the Arecibo site is a focus for strange phenomena. One of the strangest came in March 1993, when a former British Airways pilot, Graham Sheppard, experienced a mysterious `lateral displacement’, throwing him miles off course, as he was flying his Cessna 172 light aircraft close to the telescope. Sheppard, an expert navigator whose experience in the air spans four decades, and includes flying 747’s, describes it as the most bewildering moment of his career. After passing over the telescope, a feeling of unease and growing confusion came over me,’ he says. `Minutes went by with no idea of my position, but I was confident the west coast would soon appear at right angles to my course. `I recall the shock of seeing the coastline, not at right angles to my course, but parallel. It became alarmingly clear that I was flying along the south coast.
The navigation error here is enormous and should be impossible.’ An on-board video camera confirms that Sheppard’s gyro compass was set to the correct bearing for his original course. It also confirms that he was flying at 2,200 ft – yet somehow he had passed over hills up to 3,900ft high. THE aircraft’s instruments had appeared normal, and later weather checks ruled out a freak wind having blown him off course. None of the pilots to whom I have sent records of this flight can rationalize the displacement. Sir Mark Thomson, a former Royal Navy Jet pilot who has taken a close interest in the strange events around Puerto Rico, is as baffled as he is impressed. ‘It is one of the most important pieces of evidence I’ve seen,’ he told me. `There is no explanation in our laws of physics.’ Could such aerial displacement be linked to the disappearances that have made the whole area of the Bermuda Triangle so notorious – such as the flight of Grumman Avenger torpedo-bombers that vanished off the Florida coast just after World War II?
In Puerto Rico, there are those who report incidents that are equally sinister and inexplicable. I interviewed two groups of witnesses who, on two separate occasions in 1988, claim to have watched as U.S. Navy Grumman F-14 jets were apparently `captured or otherwise absorbed’ mid-flight by large, unknown aerial craft they were pursuing. Perhaps it sounds like fantasy. But on one occasion, at least, it seems that the object which had caused such a disappearance may even have been captured on U.S. radar. `MAYDAY, Mayday. We can see a strange object in our course. We are lost. Mayday. Mayday’
The distress-call came at 8pm local time on June 28, 1980. Jose Luis Maldonado Torres, a 31-year old pilot, was flying an Ercoupe 415-D aeroplane, together with a 22-year-old student pilot, from Santo Domingo to San Juan, Puerto Rico’s main airport. I have listened to a tape of some of the Mayday transmissions from the Ercoupe, leaked by a Federal Aviation Administration source, and the pilots’ anxiety is clear. `A weird object in our course made us change course about three different times . . . we have something weird in front of us . . . We are right again in the same stuff, sir. . .’ After these words, the pilots were not heard of again. A sea and air search revealed no trace. However, a tantalizing clue lies in the official report on the incident.
During the Mayday alert, the American Naval Air Station at Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico was in contact with air traffic controllers at San Juan. At 8.16 pm, 11 minutes after the Ercoupe’s s last communication, the Americans made an intriguing comment: `It looks like we may see a few of them out there…’ What did this cryptic message mean? It suggests that the air station had made several radar contacts in the area where the plane disappeared. One of them, of course, was the Ercoupe. But what were the others? Might one of them have been the `weird object’, the disorienting `stuff’ that apparently engulfed the doomed plane? One possibility is that the US. Navy had been monitoring whatever weird phenomenon caused the plane’s disappearance. Jorge Martin, the island’s leading UFO investigator, has an important contact within the military, a high-ranking officer connected to the U.S. Navy.
From this source, we learn that the American authorities grew alarmed after a number of military aircraft, as well as private planes, disappeared in an area to the north-west of Puerto Rico known as the San Juan Trench. A steep undersea cleft in the ocean floor, the lowest point this great chasm lies 30,000ft deep, further below sea level than Mount Everest is above it. HERE is the deepest point in the Atlantic Ocean. The pressures of sea-water there would crush any surface creature, and any but the most specially-constructed man-made submarines. According to Martin’s source, the Navy and Air Force found that, on a regular basis, a huge disc-shape craft would come out of the sea in the Trench, sometimes ‘hanging stationary in the air on a great column of water before vanishing or submerging again’. If this were not outlandish enough, there is more.
Pilots were reportedly ordered to approach the object, only for their jets to ‘explode silently, to vanish into thin air’. Can these astonishing claims be true? And if so, what is the terrible secret lurking beneath the ocean? A STRETCH of 100 miles of open water divides Puerto Rico from it neighboring island, the Dominican Republic.
That stretch is known as the Mona Passage. Almost half-way across it, some 45 miles to the west of the last cape of Puerto Rico, lies the small roughly circular, uninhabited Mona Island. At the time of its last communication, the lost Ercoupa aircraft was just to the east of Mona Island. Other crews crossing the area have reported anomalies affecting their positioning. One pilot in a light aircraft noted an `an uncontrollable spin’ of his compass. Jorge Martin’s U.S. Naval office offers a remarkable explanation’ His revelations about Mona Island are bizarre, extraordinary, and almost beyond belief.

During his recent visit to Puerto Rico, Bob Pratt, U.S. investigator, said: “Puerto Rico is incredible. In other parts of the world, you see a wave of a certain type of case for a certain time and in a certain place – but here all types of UFO cases are occurring everywhere all the time. You see UFOs entering or leaving the sea, entering into mountains, landings encounter with entities, abductions, physical examinations, military jets pursuing UFOs and vice-versa, encounters with “Bigfoots” – in fact, the lot! Puerto Rico is a veritable “paradise” for the investigator who has dedicated himself to probing the entire UFO situation”.
Similar comments have come from other visiting investigators, such as Timothy Good of England, Yun Ichi Yaoi of Japan, Jaime Maussán from Mexico, Salvador Freixedo and his wife Magdalena del Amo from Spain, Command-Sergeant Major Bob Dean from the USA, and many, many others.
The case that I am describing today occurred at 7.45 pm. on December 28, 1988, when, according to numerous local eyewitnesses, a gigantic vividly illuminated “Triangle” apparently captured two military jet aircraft and then vanished, over the area of the Sierra Bermeja (“Vermilion Range“) and Lake Cartagena, in the south-western corner of the Island of Puerto Rico, where the great bulk of the phenomena seems to be concentrated. (see map above). So far as we have learned, the two jets were from the U.S. Navy – possibly F-14 Tomcats.
All the many witness accounts, from the towns of Lajas and Cabo Rojo, as well as their sketches of the UFO and the two aircraft, are in complete agreement. Among these many eyewitnesses was Sr. Carlos Manuel Mercado, residing at Betances, beside the Highway No. 101 and near the Sierra Bermeja and the Samán area. Mercado and his family had already had numerous UFO sightings, and we trust him because everything that he has said is backed up by so many other eyewitnesses.
Soon after the episode of the big triangle and the two vanishing jets, we were in that area, investigating, when Mercado contacted us saying that he had to tell us confidentially about something that had been worrying him greatly for months past. He said that six months before the affair of the triangle and the two jets, something important had happened to him, He said that so far he had not dared to tell anyone, because they would never believe him. He went on: “You investigators know that we have experienced very strange things here. I seek no publicity. I just tell you this because I know that you are a sensible and serious person and will listen to me.
“In July 1988, prior to the affair of the triangle and the jets on December 28 of that year, this thing, of which I have told nobody, happened to me. It left me too shaken. It wasn’t something bad – but it had a profound effect on me. “This is the very first time that I have told anyone. I was carried off by some of those Martians. It was at night – about midnight – I couldn’t sleep owing to the terrific heat, so I got out of bed and went to the sitting-room.
My wife remained asleep. I lay down on the sofa in the sitting-room, to see if it was a bit cooler there. “After a few minutes, I saw a glow of whitish light coming from outside, as though from the road, and I heard a strange noise, like a powerful hum- zuuuuuum something like that, I’d say.
“A couple of minutes or so later, I heard what seemed like something tapping on the window in front of me – a metallic sort of sound, as the window has metallic shutters – aluminum slats. “I got up and opened the window, and there they were – three little fellows standing there under the window, in the sun-lounge of my house. It shook me.
Because they were so different – they looked a bit like us. But they weren’t human. In front of his house, on the other side of the road, was standing a flying saucer.
“They were little chaps, as I say, and ugly, with heads a bit bigger than ours, and no hair. They had no ears, and their eyes were huge, dark. I could see no noses on them – just little holes. And a little slash for a mouth. Their faces looked flattened.
“Their skin was sort of grayish, and their faces and hands covered with little bumps or lumps. Do you know how acne looks? Well – it was like that. Ugly they were. They were about three to four feet high (a bit over one meter) and they were thin, and dressed in overalls like mechanics wear, from top to toe, of a sort of grayish-creamy looking color, a sort of sandy shade.
“Only their heads and hands were not covered by the clothing. “At first I felt scared, but they told me not to be afraid, that they weren’t going to hurt me, and only wanted to show me something. And they told me this, as it were in my mind because they didn’t open their mouths even once. When they told me that, my fear left me. I didn’t know why really, but I had the feeling that they were good, and that they weren’t going to do me any harm. “They asked me to come out, so I opened the door and went out. Then two of them took hold of me, one on each arm, and took me out up the road, and it was then that I saw the machine. It was one of those saucers of theirs, a vessel, I tell you. It was standing there on the ground, just outside the entrance to Samán, beside Highway 101, right in the corner opposite my house.
“What I could best compare it to would be – you know – those watering-carts that they have on the streets – well – a bit like that… The lower part was round, and it had a raised cupola on top. And on the cupola, it had very big lighted windows.
“Below, all around the rim, the thing had lots of lights, of all colors. And, underneath, four tall metal legs on which it was standing. In the center underneath there was a hole, and a ladder coming out of it, and the little chaps told me to go up the ladder. I went up it with them and we arrived on top inside where the big windows were. There was lots of machinery there, and sort of panels, controls, little lights, and some other little chaps working the controls. And also one other – who was different.
“They explained to me that this one – the different one – was their captain and doctor and that from then on he would take over with me. And so they went off to do other things.
“Well, as you could imagine, the truth is that I felt better with him – because he looked more like us, less coarse, and smoother. His skin color was the same as theirs – greyish – his head a bit bigger than theirs, but his eyes not so big. And he had a nose like us, but pointed, and the surface of his skin was not like the skin of the little fellows with those awful lumps. “He was dressed in a broad white tunic right up to his neck, and broad sleeves down to his wrists. The tunic reached down to his feet and he seemed to have something white on the feet.”
According to Mercado, the appearance of this being made him feel more comfortable. The being indicated to Mercado that he was in control of this craft and that the idea of bringing Mercado into him was in order to show Mercado something important that he could later share with other people. He told him not to be afraid, and that they were soon going to take him back. At that point, Mercado heard a humming sound and felt how the support legs of the craft were rising and fitting into it, and he heard the metallic noise of it and the other accompanying sounds. Then he heard an even louder hum, and the machine took off at speed.
AN E.T. BASE BENEATH THE SIERRA BERMEJA?
Most impressed, Mercado could see, through the wide windows of the control chamber in the cupola, that the craft was climbing.
“I then began to think that we were going to go very far, but, instead of that, the craft headed towards one of the peaks of the Sierra Bermeja, which is very well known to me, because I have often been up there, and it is called the Monte El Cayúl. “There, behind the Cayúl, is a deep ravine between it and the next peak, and that is where the craft headed for. I was scared now because I thought the craft was surely going to strike and explode, but to my astonishment, the side of the mountain opened up, and there was a hole there in the ravine, and in just a minute or so, we went down into that hole.
“The craft carried on as it were down a tunnel, and then we came to a big open place down there, very deep. It was like a vast, gigantic cave, with these people in it. “The ship landed in a section where there were lots of other craft – lots of them, but of different types. Some were round, like the one that had brought me, some were triangular, some were square – all different sorts. But no airplanes or helicopters or anything of that sort! Nothing from here! (Or, at any rate, if there were any, I didn’t see them.)
“The tall being told me to come out with him and he made me put on a sort of big, like enormous dark spectacles so that I could see everything down there clearly. It was all very well lit down there. You couldn’t see where the light was coming from, but it was a very brilliant light, very white. All the walls there were covered with a very shiny silvery metal.
And lots and lots of the little chaps were there, and an enormous lot of activity. “Many of the little men were working on the ships, and others seemed to be preparing things, like machinery or electronic stuff.
That was a vast world down there. There were buildings there like military barracks. “The tall being explained to me, mentally (for he too didn’t talk with the mouth) that they have been down there for a long, long time. He said they don’t want to leave there. He said that there, beneath the Sierra Bermeja, they have the Base for the maintenance of their craft.
That approximately is what he said. “He said they wanted me to see all that because they wanted me to tell the folk here (us terrestrials) that they don’t have any bad intentions, and don’t want to do us any harm or conquer us. “He said that what they want is to be able to sort of inter-relate with us totally, at the social level, mingle with us, but that our Authorities don’t want that.
He insisted that I should tell the people outside all this, that they don’t want to conquer us or do us any harm. “So I asked them why it should be I – I who am nobody important – whom nobody would believe? “But he said that was of no importance. That when I said all that to them, the people outside who possess understanding would know that I was telling the truth. “He also said that they were taking other people down deeper, and telling them the same things that they were telling me. And he said that they weren’t going to go away from there.
“After that, he made me get into the craft and it went up the tunnel again. I saw that we came out through the same hole by which we had gone in and that a sort of lid closed down on it. It was as though a part of the mountain, along with its trees and grass and everything, just lifted up. Afterward, it was just as though nothing had happened there. “We landed at the same spot where they had picked me up, and I got out with the little chaps. They told me that they would return another day.
They took me right back to my house, and then they departed. “It was after they had gone that I began to get nervous. I thought about it for quite a bit, and then I went to the bedroom to tell my wife, Haydée, all about it, but she was still asleep so I left her without troubling her. I lay down and slept till the next morning. Then, when I woke her up, I told it all to her, and she believed me.
“You know, I’m still waiting for them because I like what happened. In my opinion, they aren’t bad. I could feel it. If they had wanted to do me harm they could have done it when they took me. I’d like them to come back so that I could go with them again. They aren’t bad people. “I’m telling you all this because, when that UFO took those two airplanes, I was very nervous, because the airplanes were harassing it, it carried them off.
That has left me very worried because I have the feeling that those beings are good, and it looks as though somebody wants to get them out of there. There’s something going on there! COMMENT Such is the statement of the eyewitness Carlos Manuel Mercado regarding his unusual experience. But there are a number of points to consider regarding what he reports.
The place indicated by him as the spot where the opening on the flank of El Cayúl Peak lies, in the ravine behind it, has also been reported to us as the general area to which other people of the region who have allegedly been contacted by alien beings of this same type of “Greys” were also taken. Owing to the promise of confidentiality that we have given to these other eyewitnesses, we cannot mention their names here, but at least in two other similar cases, we can say that a woman employed by the Municipality of Lajas allegedly was carried to some immense subterranean facility beneath the Sierra Bermeja by alien beings who took her from her home. She had been “medically examined” by the “Greys” down there, and she had been given a similar explanation to the explanation given to Mercado. Her whole account of the place is completely identical to Mercado’s description.
Then again, likewise, a high military official of the Puerto Rico National Guard, residing in Aguadilla, was seemingly also abducted by the same beings and taken to precisely the same place, which is described by him in more or less exactly similar terms. Later, when he emerged from the trance in which they had kept him during all the time of his experience down there, he was found beside a pool up on the Peak of El Cayúl. We must also mention here various other ‘situations’ that call very much for careful study in view of all that we have described above and that we have also otherwise heard. These ‘situations’ are connected with a series of ‘coincidences’ occurring in this same region of the Sierra Bermeja. Firstly, on top of a peak lying to the right of the Cayúl Peak (i.e. as seen from the direction of Cabo Rojo), there were erected, about seven years ago, some facilities said to be for a station of the Voice of America Radio.
The area around it was declared a restricted area, the excuse being that this was on the general grounds of security and nobody living in the region was permitted to approach the place. However, so far as we know, until now, no transmissions from that alleged Station have ever gone out. So why, then, was the building erected there? If it is not being used for the function for which it was allegedly built, what then is its true role? At times unidentified individuals have been seen visiting there. Who are they, and what are these people doing?
They might very well be watching, from there, what is going on in the coastal zone near Lake Cartagena and the Sierra Bermeja…..Or they might indeed perhaps be participating in what is afoot there? On many occasions, the residents of Boquerón, Las Palmas, and Betances (all in Cabo Rojo Municipal Region) and of Olivares (in Lajas Municipality) have observed large UFOs of different shapes (triangles, discs, cigars, etc.) hanging stationary over the Cayúl Peak and over the mountain where the building of the alleged Voice of America Station is located. What are the UFOs looking for so persistently up there?
Perhaps these experiences that Carlos Manuel Mercado and the lady from Lajas and the military officials claim to have had given us the answer? Is there really an alien installation beneath the Sierra Bermeja as they assure us to be the case? In our last issue (EVIDENCIA OVNI No.1) we published an article on the strange death of Diego Segarra, the fisherman from Cabo Rojo. We reported on the experience of a person close to him, who made a video film of the landing of a UFO on the Sierra Bermeja, and of the emergence from it of two “Grey” beings and of a tall, human, ‘albino’ type of person who left the site in a military jeep driven by two soldiers. The spot where this happened, according to the fisherman Segarra, was at the foot of the El Cayúl Peak.
The reports from this entire area are extremely numerous, and in future issues, we will be continuing to analyze them.
In July of 1952 the world was electrified by large newspaper headlines and photos of squadrons of UFOs flying repeatedly over the nation’s Capital in Washington, DC. Four months later WW II General Dwight Eisenhower was elected President. The same month President Eisenhower took office (January, 1953), the CIA’s Office of Scientific Intelligence (OSI) was ordered to determine if UFOs were interstellar vehicles. OSI convened the Robertson Panel of scientists, which recommended that the Air Force study of UFOs, Project Blue Book, be expanded.
A year later, in April, 1954, as documented by Gerald Light, President Eisenhower made a secret trip to Muroc Field (now Edwards Air Force Base), in the California desert, accompanied by generals, reporter Franklin Allen of the Hearst Newspapers Group, Los Angeles Catholic Bishop James McIntyre, and others. The President had previously arranged to be in nearby Palm Springs, CA, purportedly for a golfing vacation.
He “was spirited over to Muroc one night,” while reporters were fed the cover story that the President had a toothache and needed to see a dentist. While at Muroc Air Field, Eisenhower was present while an extraterrestrial disc landed. Several Star Visitors emerged to converse with the President and the generals. The extraterrestrials requested that Eisenhower make the public aware of extraterrestrial contact with Earth forthwith. The President protested that humans were not ready, and needed time to be prepared for adjusting to this stupendous reality.By the end of the following month, May, 1954, President Eisenhower’s CIA Director, Walter Bedell Smith, Prince Bernhard of Netherlands, David Rockefeller and other top world financiers, later-Secretary of State Dean Rusk, later-British Minister of Defense Denis Healey, and other Western power leaders convened the inaugural meeting of the Bilderberg Group, “a means of Western collective management of the world order”. One of the early items on the agenda of this world management policy board was extraterrestrial contact. The following information was disclosed to me by a confidential reliable informant, who previously worked on contract for the National Security Agency, and maintains connections within the Intelligence community. This information has been confirmed by a second source, Dr. Michael Wolf of the National Security Council’s unacknowledged subcommittee, the MJ-12 Special Studies Group. The report which follows is not “leaks”.
The release of this information is part of the Acclimation Program, an official though unacknowledged U.S. Government policy of “processed release of information”, as Dr. Wolf describes it. (Any information presented in this report which I have developed independent of these two governmental informants will appear in parentheses.)Shortly after establishing itself, the Bilderberg Group collaborated with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), another international policy body devoted to world management, concerning the problem of adjusting humankind to extraterrestrial presence. Bilderberg and CFR decided jointly in the mid-1950s to enter into an arrangement with the extraterrestrials: The ETs were given an island in French Polynesia as a base on Earth.
This arrangement afforded them an opportunity to monitor closely Earth cultures and behavior; and it permitted Earth governments a way to monitor extraterrestrial culture and behavior. “It became an on-going experiment,” as my former-NSA informant put it. He adds that when official public announcement of the extraterrestrial presence occurs, “they will be the ones introduced to Earthlings; ‘Oh, by the way, we want to welcome our neighbors from the Pleiades, who by the way have been here since [the beginning of Earth] time, but [are] actually living in our place, date, space and time.”
The informant adds, “They are the diplomatic corps.” My ex-NSA informant reported that the U.S. particularly held out for many concessions before agreeing to the arrangement. (He did not specify what those concessions were, but history subsequent to 1954 suggests that what the U.S. obtained was the lion’s share of extraterrestrial scientist consultants, to assist American scientists in understanding and adapting exotic ET technologies into such devices we now know as the computer chip, fibre optics, lasers, gene- splicing therapy, cloning, night-vision equipment, super-tenacity fibers (such as Kevlar lightweight armor), aerospace ceramics, Stealth technology, particle-beam devices, and gravity-control flight.) NSC’s Dr. Michael Wolf has previously revealed in his book
The Catchers of Heaven that he worked with ETs as part of his governmental duties. “I met with extraterrestrial individuals every day in my work, and shared living quarters with them,” while doing research at extremely- classified underground government research laboratories. He added, “Zetas work in underground facilities, as requested by the U.S. Government. The ETs are not breaking the U.S. Government- Zeta treaties, but the Government has broken treaties by mistreating ETs, and trying to fire on UFOs.” Dr. Wolf also described working with very human-appearing races dubbed the Nordics and Semitics.
He said, “The Semitics and Nordics come from Altair 4 and 5 and from the Pleiades [star systems].”Wolf also disclosed that in 1954 the U.S. had four extraterrestrial corpses in the “Blue Room”, Hanger 18 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio. These bodies came from a series of retrievals of downed UFOs. “The first UFO came down in 1941 into the ocean west of San Diego, and was retrieved by the Navy.”
(The Navy has held a leadership position in UFO matters ever since.)
Between that and the first publicly-announced UFO crash in 1947, northwest of Roswell, New Mexico, Wolf says there was another crash in 1946, as well as two other crashes in 1947 besides Roswell.
Taxpayers Could End Up Funding Research on Edible mRNA Vaccines Under $460 Billion Spending Bill
The omnibus spending bill passed Wednesday by the U.S. House of Representatives allows funding of transgenic edible vaccine research, even though the House previously voted unanimously not to allow the funding.
The U.S. government could fund research on transgenic edible vaccines — vaccines grown in genetically engineered plants meant for consumption by humans or animals — under the $460 billion omnibus spending bill passed Wednesday by the U.S. House of Representatives.
The bill allows for funding of transgenic edible vaccines, even though the House previously voted unanimously not to allow the funding, according to Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who led the effort to prohibit the funding.
Before Wednesday’s vote, Massie told The Defender why he thought the amendment was left out. “The omnibus we are voting on this week has over 600 earmarks [funding for specific projects] in it. It’s possible leadership omitted my popular amendment because it would have ended pet projects in some members’ districts.”
Vaccine-laced corn contaminated 500,000 bushels of soybeans
As previously reported by The Defender, Massie introduced the amendment on Sept. 27, 2023, after learning about a U.S. government-funded project in California that involved growing lettuce and trying to get the lettuce to produce mRNA vaccines that were intended to be consumed by humans who ate the lettuces.
The National Science Foundation gave half a million dollars to the research venture, Massie said.
Massie said he was concerned “that plants cross-pollinate and pollen from these modified plants, food-producing plants, could carry in the wind to other fields and contaminate them. And we could really contaminate a lot of our food supply with unknown doses of vaccines that would deliver unknown dosages.”
When Massie introduced his amendment on the House floor, he told Congress members that roughly 20 years ago, researchers tried to use corn to grow a vaccine to prevent diarrhea in pigs.
The field the next year was used to grow soybeans — but the corn sprouted again.
According to Massie, “There were some leftover kernels … and the corn was mixed with the soybeans, and it contaminated 500 bushels of soybeans that were then mixed with 500,000 bushels. And so, they had to destroy all of those soybeans.”
The New York Times reported in December 2002 that ProdiGene, the biotechnology company that developed the corn crop, agreed to pay the U.S. government a $3 million fine “to settle charges that it did not take proper steps to prevent corn that was genetically engineered to produce pharmaceuticals from entering the food supply.”
Massie asked, “Do we want humans eating vaccines that were grown in corn meant to stop pigs from getting diarrhea? I don’t think we want that to happen, yet that almost happened and it could happen.”
“Rep. Massie is right to be concerned,” Claire Robinson, managing editor of GMWatch, previously told The Defender. “Genetically engineering a potent immunogen into food plants is irresponsible in the extreme.”
Robinson added:
“All the usual risks of GM [genetically modified] plants — the DNA-damaging effects of the GM transformation process leads to changes in gene expression and biochemistry of the plant, which can include the production of toxins or allergens — apply to these vaccine-producing plants, with additional risks on top.
“In the case of vaccine-producing plants, you are intentionally engineering a plant to elicit an immune reaction. This increases the level of risk exponentially.”
‘Either they don’t work, or they are not safe, or both’
According to a 2013 scientific paper, transgenic edible vaccines “are prepared by introducing selected desired genes into plants and inducing these genetically modified plants to manufacture the encoded proteins.”
Such vaccines offer “several potential advantages” to conventional vaccine production techniques according to the paper, including a potentially lower cost of production that would be suitable for developing countries.
Efforts to develop transgenic edible vaccines are not new — scientific literature on the topic dates back to at least 1999.
What is new with some current attempts to develop transgenic edible vaccines is that they would be geared to deliver mRNA vaccines orally.
“These are all genetically modified crops,” Massie said. “They’ve been injected with mRNA or spliced with DNA, with the intent of creating copies of that RNA or DNA. The plants are pretty effective at that.”
This approach is not new, Robinson said. “Scientists have been trying to produce edible vaccines in plants for many years.”
However, she added, “Thus far, not one plant-produced vaccine has been approved anywhere, as far as I know. What does that tell us? Either they don’t work, or they are not safe, or both.”
